I decided to make a questionable financial decision and get both this and the AYA Neo pocket DS. I've waited too long for dual screen emulation :)

Top screen only works in 120hz when bottom is off, and only one screen protector, that plus the strange aspect ratio on bottom screen, plus the lack of third shoulder button... I'm really considering the pocket ds

Went from locked in to the pro purple to really liking the rainbow at the last minute. Ended up getting the pouch, grip and screen protector and threw in some portal sticks for my mini. Stuck with my original purple.

The biggest design flaw on this one (there's always one) is the size and aspect ratio of the bottom screen. The main reason to pick this over an Odin is dual screen (3)DS gaming (unless you just want a clamshell - don't see why anyone would buy a Flip 2 over this). So it would have made sense to have given the bottom screen the correct aspect ratio. Even if that ment going the LCD route because of availability. I think Ayaneo made the better choice with the Pocket DS' 5" 4:3 screen. 4" 8:7 is also not a comfortable size for like a map or a game guide. I am very curious what Contra 4, a game with continuous scrolling over both the DS' equal size 4:3 screens, will look on the Thor. Please test this one Joey š

I ordered the purple pro. I am pretty happy with that decision. I have a mini pro and am very happy with the capabilities of it. Personally I don't think the extra ram and storage is worth an extra 80 bucks.

Will the Pro model be enough for secret console and indie and fromsoft games with winlator? I already have an 564 microSD card so everything would live there, but I'm not sure about ram usage of those emulators

Here's a rundown of what you need to know:
- Shipping start mid-October. Review mid-September. No games included.
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor (except the $249 version) (same as Odin 2, Odin 2 Mini, Odin 2 Portal - check any video to see performance)
- 6" 1080p 120hz OLED screen top + 3.92" 1080x1240 60hz OLED screen bottom (this screen is the Retroid Pocket Classic, Mini V2 and Ayaneo DMG screen)
- Despite top screen being 120hz, if both screens are on, both screens are capped to 60hz. You have to turn off the bottom screen to enable 120hz on top.
- $249 Lite 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model is the Snapdragon 865 model - great choice for those just looking for DS and 3DS and nothing else. Black color only. You can see how the 865 handles 3DS with my video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgTuj....
- $299 Base 8GB + 128GB storage model is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 model - great choice if you plan on playing anything more than DS and 3DS, like PS2, GC, Wii etc. Black color only.
- $349 Pro 12GB + 256GB storage model is a great middle ground choice as you cannot store HD texture packs, Android games and more on SD cards so the 128GB storage of the Base model can fill up quickly. This is the tier that colors are available in, along with Max.
- $429 Max 16GB + 1TB storage model is a great choice if your plan was to buy a 1TB SD card as it has it already included and it's internal storage, so even better.
- Hinge could be from the same factory or designer as the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 given the resources that seem to be shared between AYN and Retroid - it took 5-6 months after release for the Flip 2 hinge's to start becoming a concern, so it's hard to guess what will happen here and how best to avoid it.
- Canadians, you should know DHL results in fees ($60+), but arrives in 3-4 days whereas 4PX has no fees, but arrives in 8-10 days. It's almost never worth it to pay extra for DHL as a Canadian - way too expensive.
The discounts are small enough that if you're at all worried, do not preorder and wait for my review in September to know all the ins and outs, pros and cons of the Thor. However, if you have a no forex credit card - it's safe enough to preorder to keep a spot in line and cancel later if you see something you don't like without any negatives to your money.
Don't forget the accessories - Lanyard, TPU Grip, Screen Protectors, Soft Pouch, Carrying case (w/grip), Carrying case (w/o grip), and TPU Shell. Keep in mind - you cannot use a screen protector for top and bottom at the same time.
All that being said - this is what I'll personally be buying: Max White > Soft Pouch > White Clear TPU Shell.
