I've been experimenting with YouTube Shorts over the past few months. So far all the shorts I've made have been condensed versions of the long-form content and I'd like to ask for some audience input.

I just was curious whether people have enjoyed these shorts and for the minority of you who found my channel via shorts, did the shorts persuade you into watching the long-form content.

I also wanted to know whether people would want shorts which are completely separate from the long-form content, perhaps on topics which don't warrant a full video. Shorts don't require much effort from me to make so this would have minimal impact of long-form video upload frequency.

I'm just trying to gauge the general efficacy of using shorts to bring people into watching my long-form videos which at the end of the day is where the majority of my attention is devoted so feel free to comment and let me know your opinions.

One approach that I’ve seen people use is to make long form content with discrete one minute chunks, so hypothetically someone can binge the shorts, see individual shorts, or watch the entire video and get a version of a complete experience. Normally they do indicate that the video is part of a short series, and perhaps you could include additional content in the long form to tie together the shorts more cohesively, whether that be transitions or conclusion sections. It seems to be more work than focusing on one format or the other, but I think it is the most effective way to get the most of both. Cheers!

@atreidesson

I see purpose only in the shorts without long versions. They're content, and the "short-long" shorts are just links to content.

I do not like the Shorts format AT ALL.
