I still remember my first time there because my dad figured it would be a great idea to have us watch The Shining in the car in the way there to stay at the Stanley Hotel.

Can't do an Estes visit without seeing the Elks. 😊

My wife & I went there a few years ago. We did the Stanley Hotel Ghost Tour at night, it was neat listening to the ghost stories. However, I am more of a nature person & loved seeing the elk around town & in the park.

Can see the elk anywhere in RMNP.... I'm a fan of The Shining so I would say visiting the Stanley Hotel would be tops in Estes Park. We camped in Grand Lake on the east side of the park when we visited 4 years ago. Never made it into Estes Park. Worried it would be too touristy and busy. It wasn't until after our trip that I realized the hotel from the movie was in Estes Park. Will have to visit next time we're out that way.

Been to Estes Park 7 or 8 times! Pretty good for a New Englander . All those things are great but I really like being so close to RMNP . Give me the Fall River Road.
