Zee Bashew

www.twitch.tv/zeebashew
(Starting in about 10 minutes)
I'm forcing myself to learn 2024 (Which I think technically might be the 2nd edition of Ad&d 5th edition)
Basically we are slowly analyzing every page, discussing every mechanic (changed or not). And we are finally up to character creation. So if you've got a copy of 2024 or any interest in it, or you just wanna chat about D&D -

Are you interested in stuff like this?

@darkeshrine

I hate how this never popped up in my youtube feed until just now, 22 hours late.

Hey man, I appreciate your effort and love your videos. I want to just extend some of my feelings towards the discussion around D&D 5.5e, or however we call it. I started playing 2e in 2007 as a freshman, 3e and 3.5e with Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, three sessions of 4e, and I've played 5e the longest now since it dropped over 10 years ago. The longer I play the previous editions the more I wanted something that would fix or adjust them. 5e was streamlined and less byzantine than the previous versions save 4e, but also had holes in it and it's own jank. Now that i have the entirety of the 5.24 books, I can see an even more streamlined core experience, but I also lament the continued loss of some important elements of older versions. Dungeon and Exploration turns/procedures, old school Dungeon designs, hexcrawling, strongholds & followers (S.O. to Earthmote, Web DM, Dungeon Masterpiece, and Matt Colville among many others) - I had to look those up because I didn't have them in my 2014 5e books and many of those things don't exist in the 5.24 books either. That said, I feel it contains improvements, and I'm not talking in simply terms of playability, or quality of life changes, though those do make up a lot of my satisfaction. (The MM being a particularly welcome change). But I cannot ignore the offense and angst we as a community has been put through via Hasbro and WotC. This frustrates me because I /do/ own the new books. I /am/ invested in seeing games evolve but I am in that Grey area of being caught between my hobby/interests and also my deep hatred for capitalistic/corporate bullshit. Obviously, my own interests won out here, but 5e is not the only game I've purchases lately. I own Shadowdark, the Alien trrpg, Call of Cthulhu, Knave 2e, and i plan on buying Dolmenwood - and I really want to play those eventually /in addition to 5.24/ stuff. Because I can use those tools to play more specific types of games. This whole long embarrassing post just to explain my position: I love watching my games evolve and change, but I respect many people's decisions to stick with their guns on their principles - in some ways I wish I was that disciplined. But TTRPGs are what happen at the table, and 5e, 5.24, or some other TTRPG become mine when I'm running it, or yours when you are. Thanks for doing what you're doing.

I'm kinda burnt out on WotC after everything. It'd be neat to see other modern systems or more classic stuff.

@Alex-tx7ih

Yes in general, though the 2024 edition would probably be on the low end of stuff I'd want to see you do it to. I absolutely loved that short you did on the old D&D book, and love this analysis stuff in general. Your skits have shown that you have a good feel for different design goals and play styles. Hopefully you get the support needed to warrant more of this!

No I missed it. Any way I can rewatch the livestream?

I'm happy to listen to you discuss anything Zee. Even the videos I'm not too interested in are still worth a watch.

I'm a Pathfinder player (both 1e and 2e), so I'd be floored if you ever did a vid on that, but frankly I'm here for you more than any specific system, so whatever you wanna talk about is cool with me. Heck, I wouldn't mind seeing a reupload of your spell components video. You know the one.

@doctorsethjones

I think this might have been interesting a few months ago, but other YouTubers have said most of what there is to be said about 5e 2024 by now. I'd rather you lean into what make you unique - a good blend of old-school attitude and forward-looking practicality. For that reason, I think Shadowdark would be the perfect system for you to do a deep dive on. The system is best described as 5e cosplaying as AD&D, with modern mechanical elegance in the service of a black-and-white Xerox copy aesthetic.

I really hate to be *that guy*, but I need to ask: Are we getting any continuation on Cold Road? I've been waiting to see what happens next for so long and it's been an inspiration for me, my friends and our campaigns.

@faurash2606

Aw, sad I missed it. Are you gonna upload it somewhere? I'd be super interested to hear your thoughts on the new stuff.

@MaybeEatTheRich

If you turn it into an animated video I'm interested in almost anything. I'm more of an outsider who likes DnD as a concept, lore, and content creators having fun with it

The only thing I could find from you was like from four years ago? But it says you were live an hour ago, but I can’t find it, but I’m also an old man and I don’t know how twitch works.

@Jet0

can we please call this 5.5E we all know that's what it is and they set a precedent for the naming convention in 3rd

@grimjhaixus

Not a D&D-er, so it's only by fluke the algorithm sent me the "Coffeelock" video when it was posted, I am not your target demographic. I just love your videos, all of them, from Cold Road to McGenk Bros to Gabriella to the puzzle descriptions to mechanics of Mend, I don't play D&D and don't intend to I just like your style. So I'll keep showing up 🍻

I'd like to see you crack open pathfinder.

@SodaPopBarbecue

I'd rather you do what you want to, regardless of the TTRPG fandom wars every comments section devolves into. Which it has.

@Inevitibility23

Nope, but I'd love to see more of your stories, thoughts on last editions, and I'll never get tired of Animated Spellbook.
