August 3, 2025 From the Bible History, 2 Samuel 18:1-8 1 David counted the people who were with him and appointed commanders of thousands and hundreds over them. 2 David placed one-third of the people under the command of Joab, one-third under the command of Abishai son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, and one-third under the command of Ittai the Gittite. The king said to the people, "I myself will go out with you." 3 The people replied, "You must not go out. No matter how hard we flee, they will not remember us. Even if half of us die, they will not remember us. But you are worth ten thousand of us. It would be better for you to stay in the city and help us." 4 The king said to them, "I will do what seems good to you." The king stood by the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and thousands. 5 The king commanded Joab, Abishai, and Ittai, "Treat the young man Absalom leniently for my sake." All the people heard the king give orders to all the commanders regarding Absalom. 6 So the people went out to meet Israel. The battle took place in the forest of Ephraim. 7 There David's servants defeated the Israelites, and they suffered a great defeat there that day, with 20,000 men falling. 8 The battle spread throughout the land, and more fell in the forest that day than were killed by the sword. Battle Organizing David's Army David, a veteran warrior, was thoroughly prepared for battle. (1) David appointed commanders of thousands and centurions. (2) David further divided his troops into three divisions and assigned them to Joab, Abishai, and Itai. Itai was a Gittite (Philistine). This shows how much David trusted Itai. (3) David offered to join the interception to provide moral support to the soldiers. However, his men requested that David remain in the city and take command rather than risk his life, since he was a king worth 10,000 people. (4) David agreed and remained in the city. At this time, David asked the three commanders to spare Absalom's life and treat him leniently. This request became known to all the people. Killing Absalom would be considered a betrayal of the king. Battle in the Jungle David's men chose the forest of Ephraim on the Gilead side as the battlefield. (1) They likely had time to investigate the terrain and conditions of the forest beforehand. (2) Absalom's army suffered a crushing defeat in the battle, with 20,000 killed on the spot. David's army, familiar with the battlefield conditions, had an overwhelming advantage. (3) More than half of the 20,000 killed died in the jungle. They likely lost their footing in swamps or wandered into caves. Thus, the people of Israel learned the calamity they would face if they rose up against the Lord's anointed. Absalom only wanted to kill David. David, on the other hand, valued Absalom's life more than the lives of his own soldiers. This passage exudes the love of a father for his son. The relationship between God the Father and sinners is similar. Ever since we began to live without even considering God to be God, He has been "gentle" with our lives. God loved us so much that He sacrificed His Son, Jesus. Let us live today in response to that love. Today's Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for considering my life so precious. May I live in response to Your love. I pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. This is my monologue. The theme is "organization." King David, anointed by God, was the head of his people. His body's organizational structure was the same as that of the human body. From the head came the commanders of thousands, then the commanders of hundreds. Instructions were then passed on to the soldiers, who organized and achieved success in battle. In land battles, the army that made the right decisions by accurately grasping various information, such as the terrain of the battlefield, and utilizing this information effectively won. This process is probably the same today. "Information is the material for judging the future," as the head of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces once said. Correct information is essential for fighting to protect lives. I strive to accurately convey the most important information: the gospel. That gospel is found in 1 Corinthians 15 in the New Testament. By believing in the three elements of the gospel, known as the Word of Life, you can leave this demonic kingdom on Earth and immediately become a soldier in the army of Jesus Christ, who sits at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. 1. Jesus died for your (my) sins. 2. Jesus was buried. 3. Jesus was raised on the third day. This is the information. Believe it in your heart and pray. "Heavenly Father, I thank you. Jesus Christ died for my sins, was buried, and rose from the dead on the third day. I believe in Jesus, who is still alive today, as my Savior. I accept God's grace. And I thank you that through this faith, I have been saved from this earth and sent to heaven. In the name of my Savior, Jesus Christ, I thank you, God the Father." That's right. (Amen) Your soul has become one with the Lord of life. The human body is made up of a trinity: soul, spirit of life, and body. The soul is constructed by the Word. You participated in the creation of a new soul. The New Testament is God's plan of action. Studying eschatology is especially important. As you have participated in the war against Satan, it is best to avoid defeat, as there will be differences in the rewards you will receive after you become a new soul and spiritual body. That's all for today's monologue.
