Considering how insignificant the Mona Lisa was until it became famous due to BEING STOLEN, I don't feel like it's particularly important.

The Mona Lisa, while undoubtedly a masterful painting, is far from unique. Were it never painted, some other painting would take her place in the public consciousness. On the other hand, the effects of the Eisenhower Interstate Highway System, both positive and negative, are almost impossible to overstate. The world would be a radically different place had it not been built (on the whole likely a better one, but that's at least as much opinion as fact)
