Sith Mastery

Who is the Most Influential Sith of All Time? (Part 2)

@armyfirefighter

Very tough - but I had to vote Vitiate as the most influential of all time. Bane was groundbreaking for the Sith - but he did little on the galactic stage in his lifetime. He founded what became Sidious and the Empire a thousand years later, but he himself was unknown. Revan had a massive influence on Bane - as well as his own time. But really just for a few years on the galactic stage. Vitiate was on the throne over a thousand years. Draining multiple planets of life. Defeated the Republic in war - not through subversion as the Rule of Two Sith did. But depends on your point of view as Sidous viewed Vitiate as a failure and really did not like that he wanted to end all life to acheive immortality. "Why rule over a galaxy of the dead?" as I remember him saying.

Of these, Darth Bane. His philosophy was the culmination of Revanite Boganism, and by the end of his time as master, the culmination of all Sith teaching dating back to Darth Andeddu. He was also the Sith'ari, fulfilling the ancient prophecy of the Kissai, made in the wake of Adas' death. In short, he was the culmination of all of Sith history, from the time of Adas to the fall of the New Sith.

Bane was one of the few Sith in history to take a step back and try something different. It was not without risks, but ultimately the Rule of Two finally allowed for the Sith to rule the galaxy undisputed…for a time. Unfortunately he didn’t really set up any precedence as to what the Sith would do once they conquered the galaxy. The Grand Plan was so drawn out, itself one long game plan that the Banite Sith had no real long term plan on how to rule the galaxy. Or perhaps the failure lied with the one of achieved the Grand Plan. Had Darth Plagueis lived to rule, who knows the galaxy may have faired better under his stewardship. Darth Revan was able to turn so many to his cause during the Jedi Civil War, those who wouldn’t join willingly he would have broken until they turned to the dark side. By turning half of the Republic military into his own Sith Empire and by turning to corporations who cared only about wealth, he posed a significant threat to the rest of the Republic and their Jedi guardians. Revan was certainly a tactical genius, destabilising the Republic while keeping its infrastructure intact was a smart move on his part. If only Malak hadn’t betrayed him when he did, the Empire Revan built may have been enough to fully destroy the True Sith Empire hiding beyond Republic space. And just because Revan never created the Rule of Two, there is no denying he was influential in inspiring Bane in its creation. Vitiate was influential in that he created a Sith Empire that endured for centuries, just like the Sith Empires of old before the Great Hyperspace War. Finally I would like to add Darth Krayt. He understood the flaws of the Rule of Two, so instead he returned the Sith to what they used to be. One Dark Lord to rule over many Sith. The Rule of One. The One Sith. Krayt did not inspire loyalty through fear, he did it through power and his followers respected his power. Even during the time he spent in stasis, his followers carried out his will. The One Sith might have become the perfect Sith society had Lord Krayt not been destroyed by Cade Skywalker and the remaining Sith from the war forced to go underground once more. But that’s the thing about the shadows, they may retreat but eventually they will reach out across the stars to blot out the light. And so long as there are Jedi, the Sith will always stand a chance of returning.

Vitiate, in my opinion. The Rule of Two was genius... in theory. The execution, while KIND OF successful, ended with Sidious ruling for 20 years. Also, keep in mind that it was REVAN's idea, and Bane took inspiration from his Holocron.

The banite lineage, the master stroke of the sith orders rise. Through the ashes of the dead the sith could rise anew and take on new purpose and meaning in their command of the darkside and the subsequent subjugation of the galaxy. For it is the place of the strong to dominate the weak and unworthy. Yet bane knew that the direct approach was folly. The republic could not be undone by means of arms. The sith must grow in secret while they move the galaxy into a state of disarray, the foundations of peace and justice had to crumble the light had to be snuffed out. By whispering into the ears of others and infecting the masses with mistrust and despair. They would welcome the sith as a source of strength and order when the light fails. And he ensured this would come to fruition with each generation of his line.

Darth Bane, through the Rule of Two, brought the Sith the closest in history to absolute victory. The Jedi brought nearly to extinction through Order 66, and the corrupt Republic transformed into the Galactic Empire. The Rule of Two ensured that each new master and apprentice would only grow more powerful over time, like concentrating a potent venom into a singular vessel. Darth Bane's legacy would last for a thousand years and would bring about one of the most powerful Sith Lords of all time, Darth Sidious. Many iterations of the Sith have come and gone, but only through Darth Bane's Rule of Two were the Jedi brought low by their own arrogance. The Republic handed power to Lord Sidious with thunderous applause, there is no greater victory than that.
