post 10

This is what makes modern life possible. Every single log you see at this sawmill is getting ready to be turned into lumber, and every single one of these trees was planted by humans. None of this is old growth. Maine has 16 million acres of land owned by logging companies and another few million acres of property owned by private residents who allow it to be logged and replanted. The majority of what you're seeing is Balsam Fir and Spruce, taking about forty years to become big enough to cut down. Some of it is eastern white pine, which takes about seventy years to fully grow for maximum profit. Everything is cut down and replanted. You may ask why they stockpile so much, because the roads are too muddy until june to get more out of the wilderness, and this allows them to have plenty to continue making lumber. I'll have more detailed videos of these places soon. I've submitted inquiries to tour these properties.

Belove your efforts on culverts and such, honestly unsung hero, but find this offshoot of information also valuable! Both informative and reassuring that we can have wood in a sustained manner with replanting and such (weary of that standalone mass deforesting) this bit is a breath of fresh air, thank you!

@bachlava7

Thank you for stating it's replanted. Too many don't realize this is a renewable resource.

Thank you for this information. My husband works for a cabinet manufactory and tells me about different woods at times. Nice to hear some familiar terms.

@AhHereWeGo

This is a good demonstration of why environmentalists aren’t the brightest. They see this and will think loggers are bad because they cut down trees, while they ignore that loggers are probably a majority of the reason we still HAVE trees. If there aren’t trees for lumber, then loggers couldn’t exist, therefore it’s in their own best interest to plant new trees and harvest in cycles. Same thing goes for hunting; no animals, no hunting, so it’s in our best interest to maintain populations. Thanks for sharing all you do, Post. Keep it up.

From the corn belt. Lots of soybeans and corn grown here. Fairly familiar with the process. Will be interesting to see a very different type of farming. Looking forward to your future videos
