It’s tragic that so many of us invested in our own education when our country would not invest in us and today our country tells us our education was a waste

I often get denied housing from apartments from my credit score being too low ... because I refuse to take on any loans or be in debt. Life in America IS the Onion.

Oligarchs ask what is this crippling debt ..just buy a company and sell the parts. Or get a government contract. Duh it's not rocket science... who wants to go to space!

I remember signing for my mortgage, and the guy acting for the lender said, “Congratulations on becoming a home owner.” I said, “Well, owning a debt,” and he looked as if I had slapped him. Like the fact is an outrageous heresy.

Satire is not always a joke; sometimes it merely explains flaws in the system in a way that calls attention to the underlying problem. Too bad people that vote GOP aren't educated enough (on the whole) to understand that.

@InigoMontoya-

The American dream is to earn enough money for your employer so he can have more than your neighbor’s employer. It’s just simple economics- keeping your boss up with the Jones’ boss.

Tragic that student debt won't let me get into mortgage debt.

This article was from 2014. Worry no more, young lady. We now have Buy-Now-Pay-Later to get everyone in crippling debt.

I'll never forget when I graduated from a possibly surmountable college debt to "Holy F&ck, now what?!?" medical debt. Good times.

It’s nice to keep the kids busy with minor problems while the world collapses around us all. Merciful, like that mother in titanic telling her kids a bedtime story and putting them sweetly to bed right before the ship sank.

I get it. I'm having a hard time picking between student loan debt and credit card debt. Might cut the middle man and just gamble.

@RusticRonnie

A study did find during the debt cancellation talks, that 75% of people who had their debt cancelled would end up in similar levels of debt with in 5 years… at the time people complained but the article was actually about changing the way our system works instead of a band-aid fix. Today many people have crippling credit card debt and klara payments in the thousands. So the article was definitely right… the way our current system runs this isn’t just possible its almost guaranteed for anyone but the rich and insanely loan adverse

@gobadgego

A bank can give $40k in student loans to an 18 year old to roll the dice on a career but they would deny the same person for a $500 credit card.

@cablehogue599

Basically, people are taking out a mortgage for the possibility of maybe having a career. In other countries, everyone can attend university without this debt. It also used to be able to be discharged in bankruptcy but not any longer
