During the assembly session on Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiled the state budget, earmarking funds for various initiatives. Notable allocations include Rs 100 crore for Waqf property development, fee reimbursement for minority students, and a mandated 60% use of Kannada in official settings and commercial establishments.

Amidst the budget address, the Opposition walked out as Siddaramaiah criticized the BJP-led Centre, alleging unfair fund allocation leading to revenue deficits in Karnataka and other BJP-ruled states.

Allocation Highlights:

Rs 100 crore for Waqf property development.
Registration of workshops for ‘maulvis’ and ‘muttavallis’ with the Karnataka Waqf board.
Rs 10 crore for constructing Haj Bhavan in Mangaluru.
Rs 200 crore for Christian community development.
Rs 393 crore for minority-focused programs through the development corporation.
Regarding language use, an Act will enforce Kannada’s predominant use in official and commercial domains across the state.

The budget also emphasizes the protection and conservation of ASI-maintained monuments, reflecting a special focus on heritage preservation.
