N.B. arnold says something in the intro about Lenin wanting monuments to himself and being inherently very dictatorial - we don't get into it in this part of the interview, but I don't actually agree with that! I'll talk about it more next episode, but to me what makes Lenin and Trotsky et al so interesting as a warning to intellectuals today, is that they weren't setting out to be murderers or tyrants, but via various mistakes they painted themselves into a corner that turned them into that.
