Do you have a ray tracing capable GPU, and if so, do you use ray tracing in single-player games when it's available?

@originpierce

I only use RT in games where it has decent quality. The point is that there aren't many of those games. In most cases, turning off RT and using Reshade mode provides a much better experience both visually and performance-wise.

Bought a 5090 so I'm definitely putting all the sliders to the right for a few years to come

Depends on if it fits with the game or not, like NG2 black looks worse most of the time with it enabled. But I am perfectly fine playing Star wars outlaws at 40 fps with all the bells and whistles. That game really shows off how good games can look with all the fancy tech, even if you don't like the game I think it's a fantastic tech demo.

@DannyDomunt

I always active ray and path tracing extreme in my rtx 4070 ti super

I use it whenever it makes a noticeable difference in graphics, providing it has stable performance. Path tracing in cyberpunk, for example, runs great at 1440p dlss quality + mfg 3x on my 5070 ti. I get a fairly consistent 150-170 fps after frame gen, and 60+ on average without.

I have a 4060 and only ever used with Cyberpunk and Half Life 2's path tracing, and now Assassin's Creed Shadows. RT is just not worth it overall lol

Have a 3080 12gb which I use at 4k. Unfortunately it doesn't have the power to do ray tracing in the newer games at 60fps. But for older games I turn it on if I can get 60fps at high settings at a minimum of dlss performance. I'm considering upgrading to a 5070 ti purely so I can try path tracing lol

I play it in D4 sometimes....but it creates a memory leak so most of the time i turn it off asap. So yeah ofc if the game performance supports.

@OlaftheGreat

It definitely depends on the game, and my library doesn't have a ton of the newest games, but my god is Cyberpunk 2077 worth it

No options for " I use it even with performance hit? "

@charekuu

Probably not in a fast paced multiplayer title like BF2042, but in singleplayer games I almost always turn it on, especially if the game also has Frame Gen. I have an RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and a 1440p monitor.

Single games are created primarily to enjoy the graphics of this game and therefore I think the best enjoyment would only be on the PS5 on a large screen. But given the popularity of 2K, 4K monitors, then in general you can also enjoy all this on a PC. I will say that the entire RTX xx60 line is dummies with the inscription rtx that do not give normal enjoyment of the game due to the low, deadly fps of this technology. So not everyone can enjoy it. Therefore, everything depends on the game, how well it is optimized and how much it will kill the fps. But compressing the graphics is also not cool and here you need to choose the golden mean of the optimal fps. Whether rtx is needed or not, personally I like that such visually cool things appear in the world, as this gives a new impression of the quality of the picture that we watch on the screen.

I sure as hell do turn it all on except for no frame gen being cyberpunk. My 4080 super can handle at no problem

I'm running a RX 7900 XTX. The Ray tracing performance of that card is supposed to be comparable to the 3000 series lineup of Nvidia gpus. So, what does this actually mean? 1) if the game is multi-platform. Odds are I can max it out with Ray Tracing. It makes sense since PS5 and Xbox series X's graphics are comparable to an RX 6600 XT with 16GB of VRAM and since RDNA is built incrementally on top of itself anything that is better than that benchmark is going to probably perform very nicely. 2) if the game is one of those RTX graphical overhaul re-releases Nvidia is pouring lots of money into. There is a very good chance that if I try to max out Ray Tracing I will start having artifacts and everything will slow to a crawl. I will have to lower the settings kind of significantly to get it to run smoothly and it will not work well. These games essentially are big ads for Nvidia cards built directly alongside Nvidia's driver support so I'm not surprised. 3) if the game is multi-platform or PC only, but has a lot of money shovelled in through Nvidia to the point where they're advertising their RTX support. Then it kind of depends. I've had some games where I can enable Ray Tracing and it works perfectly fine I can even max out the game. I've had some where the option to enable Ray Tracing is completely grayed out and I don't even get the option to try to enable it. Then there are times where I can enable it and it works generally fine but there is an incentive to turn it down a little bit to gain some more frames back. I will be honest and say when it works. I really do enjoy using it. It does look really nice. If I happen to be a little extra crazy about it and have more of an expendable income, I could see a potential justification to move to an Nvidia card, but given the expense of them and the fact that I don't have a dependency on cuda or anything else, I still find it very hard to justify given the differences in overall value as of now. However, given the nature of the discussion. I do have to recommend the Nvidia Ray Tracing support over AMDs if that's important to you.

I have a RTX 4060 and most games with ray tracing I can run at native 1080p. If it’s especially taxing I can drop it to quality DLSS.

@joelschwartz4679

the only games I have found ray tracing worth it is when the game does a good job implementing it like in quake 2 rtx, minecraft rtx, the witcher 3, cyberpunk otherwise I found that most games don't look any better with it on and cause worse performance without any visual gain

Always use RT at 4K with my rtx 4060 and rx 7800 xt

If people saying they don’t use it then they probably don’t have a real ray-tracing capable card

Got a 4090 and most of the time ill turn it off. Especially in multiplayer pvp games i need all the frames i can get.

some games ray tracing don't have much difference (like re4), i wouldn't consider it
