Many people have never heard of Japan's "comfort women" system during WWII. Here are five key facts about this shocking practice. #LastDaughters

1. The "wartime comfort women" were victims of sexual slavery by the Japanese military during #WWII.

2. Per estimates, at least 400,000 women globally were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military.

3. They were mostly from China, the Korean Peninsula, the Philippines, Myanmar, Malaysia and the Netherlands. Half of the victims – some 200,000 – were from China.

4. These women endured horrific conditions, including repeated rape, beatings and torture. Many did not survive, with some estimates suggesting a 90 percent death rate.

5. Survivors and advocates are still waiting for a formal apology and legal reparations from the Japanese government.

@TheWorldInsider

Btw most comfort women were killed when Japan started to lose, massacre and thrown in mass graves, because the dead cannot testify against their war crimes. That’s why the exorbitant mortality rates.

Comfort women of Singapore as well. My mum was only 10 at that time. She recalled how those malevolents scrutinised the young women who were shaking in fear. People should visit the Nanking Memorial where 1000 were buried alive and thousands killed in Broad daylight in Nanking.

Japan is still living in denial. A country who do not face and learn from their own horrific past has no future. Learn from Canada and Germany in this regard.

Japan does not learned from their mistakes. They are now claiming victimhood. Until they destroyed their shrine to the class A war criminals and atone for their crimes, no amount of scraping and bowing is suffice. Beat this in mind for the crimes they committed and didn't atone nor admit to

My condolences to yhe Chinese and the Russian people that suffer most deaths on second world war. I am Greek and we fought against then nazis losing 1 million people out of 8 million population!!. It looks that the countries that fought against nazis does not have any appreciation from the *non nazis" that surrender in 1 day or never been really attacked!!
