So over all I think it’s a good thing. The issue with rate bombing would cease which is what most people had problems with. I could think of a couple reasons why they happen; like when someone makes an AI comic, or people find the author or their story problematic so they rally and rate bomb, etc. I definitely feel a lot of lgbt+ comics get targeted because the audience think it’s wrong that a cis women is making a bl or maybe people view the representation as not good enough or stereotypes. Or they’re straight up homophobic. It’s just messy. For cases where it’s a canvas artist and they mind their own business making their comic, I think it is detrimental to their motivation and self-esteem to see low ratings. I do understand not everyone will like your work, but I can’t help but keep in mind that this is just someone online trying to share their stories and have fun. Who am I to rain on their parade? If I don’t vibe with a story I just don’t read it. Maybe viewing it as a creator is different, but I can’t help keep in mind that someone is probably loosing sleep making something they want to succeed badly and it would be crushing to receive a one star and nothing else. If there is something in the comic that is egregious then I think it’s fair to leave low ratings. However what if it’s a slice of life and you don’t like the slice of life genre. Is that fair to leave a low rating then? What is the point of leaving a low rating when you can’t even explain why you didn’t personally like it. If the system had a feature where you must leave a comment why you are giving it the rating I would let that slide since at least a person can say why. For example someone could say ‘I had thought the story would take a different turn’ or ‘The font for the dialogue was hard to read.’ Of course some people could use that as another excuse to be needlessly rude too but I really wouldn’t know what other solutions there would be off the top of my head. And heck, what if a story has a slow start and gets good? I believe as soon as someone isn’t interested they just drop a single star and move on. And I can’t help but think there is a wave of people who think ‘mid’ equals ‘bad.’

Double edge sword. It now prevents unfair rating bombing, but also now you won't be able to know which comics are indeed not good at all or super controversial. Same thing as YouTube likes I think.

I had never noticed there’s a rate system until I uploaded a webtoon myself. If it keeps others safe from ratebombing that’s a good thing though
