Why It Ain’t Much Fun Being Overweight in the Heat of Livingstone 🇿🇲
Livingstone is a beautiful place, but when the mercury rises, carrying excess weight makes the heat feel even more unforgiving. The sun presses down harder, every step feels heavier, and the simple act of moving becomes a sweaty ordeal. Clothes cling, skin chafes, and sleep is broken by the oppressive warmth of the night.
So we seek refuge. We hunt for aircon in shops or cars, and we linger in those cool blasts longer than we need to. We dip in swimming pools whenever possible, feeling that brief moment of weightlessness in water where the body finally feels free. We shower often, sometimes three times a day, just to feel human again.
One odd blessing of the heat is that appetite naturally declines. Heavy meals lose their appeal, and suddenly fruit, salads, or lighter bites seem far more satisfying. Drinking water becomes easy, almost instinctive. Bottles are drained quickly and refilled again. Hydration feels natural when the sun insists on draining every drop of energy from you.
And yet, despite all of this, the stubborn weight remains hard to shift. At fifty-something, the metabolism does not work like it used to. The old tricks no longer deliver quick results. You can eat less, drink water, and even move more, but the body holds on. Progress feels slow, sometimes painfully so.
But still, the fight continues. Living in the heat reminds me why I need to change. Why health matters more than ever. Why perseverance, even when progress is slow, is the only way forward.
Bye Bye Fatman
