@HashihimeTM

It really comes down to team RWBY never getting any of the final fights or glory shots. I remember a huge group of RWBY fans being upset that Yang and Blake won against Adam. That’s how low the show makes the power team RWBY feel to where the audience feels that two members couldn’t beat a man who is fighting recklessly and one has beaten before.

Part of the problem is they were meant to be going to a school to hunt Grimm, but never failed to slay every Grimm they went up against

Power Scaling RWBY requires quite the fit mind for the kind of mental gymnastics you have to endure.

Red trailer Ruby > Post V9 Ruby > V1-9 Ruby Red trailer Ruby feels like she comes from RWBY's equivalent to Marvel comics 'Ultimate' version of characters. Which are meant to be depicted as more 'badass' and have less self control when fighting their enemies

I think the bigger problem comes down to, everyone is getting stronger together and more often than not their victories have circumstances around it that make it so it’s harder to tell they did The only exception to this where it feels really blatant that RWBY got stronger is Ruby v Curious Cat, cause there is no surrounding circumstances to downplay the victory

@MrLightningbob

None of them ever seem to show any firm of getting stronger or more skilled… just winning their fights because the plot demands it. Fighting Adam is a perfect example as he was able to take down both Blake and Yang with little to no effort at Beacon but somehow lost to them at Argus

@The-Gardening-Section

Considering that they barely dented Cinder in Atlas, I’d say this is a fair assessment.

To be honest I think just letting team RWBY use their kit why better and more creatively would be good. But the problem is that ruby already started using her stuff creatively and if anything it feels like she is getting lazy with her fighting style. It is like they are leveling in reverse. like I mean ruby's semblance lets her turn her molecular structure into rose petals. Why not let her figure out she can turn into it for a split second during battle to avoid attacks that would at least feel like a progression. Oh and actually having them dealing good hits to the villains. I mean you need your jobbers to make the heroes look good yeah let them struggle a tiny bit but still have them win.

@whensomethingcriesagain

For my two cents, I think it comes down to how actually demonstrating characters having grown stronger requires actually working that into stuff like fight choreography, and the team has never once been good at that even in the seasons where they're more coherent. It's very rare even in the really good fights to actually get a sense of a gradient in skill between the combatants through how they move and interact. So if you can't do that, all you can really do is give them new abilities or have them win against higher level opponents DBZ style. And granted, it's REALLY hard to actually demonstrate differing levels of skill between characters without just throwing in one making mistakes or stomping the other. I don't strictly blame the team for being unable to capture that, but for my money that's the real core of the problem.

@elae4051

It's one part them not getting to take part in most of the climaxes (let alone together), another part genuinely seems like they haven't been practicing, the fight choreography not doing the heavy lifting anymore, and no one getting any major upgrades it seems (and even if they do like the Silver Eyes it eventually becomes way less effective)

@brandito5480

This is why a battle animes need good power scaling, if it isn’t then your characters feel like they lack growth or that they’re wildly inconsistent. Which, in rwby, isn’t exactly far off.

Interesting, looking forward to it

To be honest, I can see this point. First off, the girls semblances never evolved. Second the only final battles the girls actually won was in season 1, 2, 4, 6, and 9, and those were mainly against Grimm except for season 1 and 9. They never faced down the main bad guy of the season or stand toe to toe with them. But then again, those bad guys are just Cinder every time. Third and final, we don't really see the girls improve that much other then Ruby suddenly having silver eye powers, Weiss and her summons, Yang getting over her PTSD, and Blake standing up to Adam.

@curepanda2646

Damn…most of what I’ve seen in recent anime, people started complaining about the MC being OP in a short span of time and hardly ever lose (i know - its a Shounen thing but u get the idea)… In this case, this is worse =~=;;

My brain: So did she not use her experience points or...?

@foxfoxstar

My predicted tldr: Because this show is generally misogynistic to begin with and the four main girls being, well, girls means they don't stand a chance when paired with the more specific problem of the show staff loving to make shiny new characters to give plot lines to instead of having the characters named Team RWBY do something in this show which is named after them

@naturescorruptedinfactorie8062

They get to serve during fights during the early volumes, but really there are no improvements later on. I get it’s probably an issue of “How the hell do we make these girls look more capable when they’ve already shown off,” but still it’s disappointing to see the stagnation. With the fall-off of fight quality, it even reads as them getting way worse from time to time.

@BeetleTricks411

They always be dealing with fodder enemies rather than unique stand enemies or people that make them go past their previous limits(Ace ops don't count because THEY Were HolDING back)

@Carpe-Diem-gg1hg

They got nerfed after vol. 3

@Gunn3rGuru

To quote DBZ Abridged... Power levels are bullshit. Especially in the series with an emphasis on how strength will not bring victory. Even then, outside of 6 individuals having a different power set, fights are just all skill and application based. It's like Jojo's outside the main jostar and villain. Its not a always matter of A can hit so many lbs of TNT more than B but A either outskilled, outplayed, or outnumbered B.
