“Viffing” not to be confused with “Yiffing” is when a VTOL aircraft flips to hover mode mid-flight in order to force an overshoot by a trailing aircraft. Think of it as a very expensive party trick.

More on yiffing, sorry, viffing here: https://youtu.be/MH4m6pibyTs?si=H1fWY...

@haydenw7981

Please do not Yiff the jets, as much as USAF recruiting footage might make you want to

Put fur on a plane, put me in the sky, and I'll come back a father.

Could we see the manoeuvre diagram for Yiffing next?

@michaelwessling7921

Interesting concept... pity most engagements are beyond visible range, & never progress to a "dogfight"

Furry airplanes are pretty cool

When the raf tested it, it worked once. As soon as the opposing pilots learned it was possible they immediately adjusted and it was shown to lead to the viffing pilot losing.

This guy casually knows what yiffing means 🤨

I did this ALL THE TIME in GTA V Online! Hydra (Harrier) and Raiju (F-35 A/B/SU-57) It's a great trick if you don't have to worry about MAINTENANCE

@popupbandit

but your enemy decides to do a high yo-yo and now you're a sitting duck.

@jamesharding3459

That seems like a very simple maneuver for the Flogger to defeat by extending reversing its turn and using its superior TWR to conduct a chandelle to gain space and regain a firing angle before the Harrier can return to normal forward flight and regain speed to maneuver.

@crimsonstrykr

Why do all fighter plane maneuver manuals look like diagrams of what mid air mating dances of exotic birds would look like?

@keenestbird

at high speeds, especially around hypersonic, this maneuver could cause incredible increases in fluid pressure within the pilot's body. but i suppose some swelling is better than dying. search hyper sonic inflation for more information.

@thereyougoagain1280

The text does say that the maneuver was standard practice for experienced pilots, so far from a party trick
