What do you get in a 1Lakh/day hotel?

I had to try it out.

I was recently staying at the Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur for a day. This is the resort where Ye Jawani He Diwani was shot and a lot of celebrity weddings happen.

But what’s the difference between a regular hotel and uber luxury resorts like this one?

The service and the experience.
That’s one thing Oberoi and Taj in India have mastered.

Here’s what I noticed:

- They offer a private boat ride for your welcome to the property.
- As you enter, the staff is greeting you with your name.
- A shower of rose petals as you reach the reception along with a guide telling you all about the property and asking about your journey so far.
- Welcome drinks and a Mewari turban awaits you at the private lounge.
- The entire check-in process happens once you reach your room, which is customised exactly to your liking.
- A complimentary dish in the in-room dining order for me to try it out.
- The concierge makes all dinner/event bookings in the city on your behalf
- The breakfast can totally be ordered, without the need to going to the buffet to refill.
- Direct access to a semi-private pool from your room to soak in the surreal sunsets.
- A 30 acre property you can get lost in, with their massive gardens, walkaways, domes and Jharokas inspired by traditional Rajasthani architecture.
- Rajasthani folk dance and live music during dinner gives it a royal feel.

I’ve stayed in many hotels, but I’ve never had an experience like this one. The most impressive part was how they remembered my name, from the security guard to the hotel manager.

The world needs to learn hospitality from Indian hotel chains like Oberoi and Taj.

If you could afford, would you stay in a property like this?
