BREAKING: Shams just reported that the Mark Williams trade to the Lakers has been RESCINDED. The trade is now void and Dalton Knecht, Marc Williams, as well as the Lakers picks return to their original teams.
This isn’t unprecedented! The last time I can remember this happening was when Kyrie Irving was traded to the Celtics, and the Cavs flagged IT’s physical. As a result they requested and were granted an extra 2nd round pick in the trade. The difference is, that traded happened in the offseason, so they were still able to amend the trade. In this case, the trade deadline has passed so no changes can be made and the trade is void.
My guess is (purely speculation) the Lakers found problems they weren’t aware of during Mark Williams’ physical, and they failed him. Williams passing a physical was a condition of the trade, so the trade is now void.
