The comments on my last post really highlight something important: no-contact is one of the most polarizing topics when it comes to family estrangement.

Some of you feel it’s a selfish or unnecessary choice, while others believe it’s the only way to protect your mental health after years of hurt.

Both perspectives show just how deeply personal and painful this decision is.

Here’s the truth: there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer.

For some, no-contact can bring peace and healing. For others, it feels final, harsh, and leaves parents in confusion and grief.

What matters most is why the decision is made and whether there’s openness to healing—whether that’s through distance, boundaries, or, in some cases, reconnection down the road.

What do you think?
