A new study reveals that just 3,000 steps a day can slow the buildup of proteins that cause Alzheimer’s in the brain, potentially delaying brain aging by up to seven years in high-risk individuals.

Another study also released in 2025, which followed 3,000 older adults over the span of 10 years, showed that regular walks significantly slows cognitive decline, even in individuals with the highest genetic risk.

So, how does it work?

Two proteins cause Alzheimer’s: amyloid-beta forms sticky plaques between brain cells, -slowing communication- while tau tangles inside cells, blocking signals and killing them. Walking boosts blood flow and helps clear the proteins.
