I think you are a refreshing content creator and I recommend you to so many people. It’s great that you can educate and have fun. We are stuck thinking education has to be this rigid institution with rules. Great education is not just informative but impactful. One thing the world really needs right now is education with impact (especially here in the US). People don’t know basic history and that’s why we are where we are. Also you seem like a cool person, so I love throwing on your videos. It’s like hanging with a friend that talks about history. Your work does matter. Cheers!

Dude while it’s the topic of conversation I feel I must say that I’ve vibed with you since the beginning in part because your approach to telling these stories particularly from mythology that I’ve loved since childhood just feels so natural and your work helps me quiet an otherwise ceaselessly chattering mind it’s not flattery when I say that you’ve been a huge inspiration and grounding voice during some of the most difficult times I’ve faced in the last couple years and I consider you a friend even if our paths never cross outside of this platform but if you’re ever in Mississippi I owe you a drink or a blunt or a homecooked meal for giving life to these stories and finding the humanity at the core of these characters without glossing over the darkness central to so many of them and to so many of our own experiences.

I love your channel. Lore, history, and mythology are great loves of mine and even better when they’re delivered with a bit of snark.

I was at a first aid course once, and the tutor asked the class of adults if they could have one super power, what would it be? There were all the usual culprits, speed, fly, strength, etc. My turn, complete control over my emotions. Enjoyed the read bud👍

Much Love Amigo! Appreciate the Brief insights into your life and your process. I fully agree, entertainment and education are almost mutally exclusive but not quite, we use media as escapeism but also as a means to learn lessons, gain insights, gain knowledge, discover and be in awe of. I think a lot of creators, especially in hollywood and mainstream corporate youtube, forget that it's about the love for the story and its telling first and foremost, and how its told. The factory churned content we are mainly exposed to is getting to unhealthy levels and its why I cling onto creators, in hollywood and on youtube alike, who still acknowledge the art of storytelling, that these stories are intrinsic to the human zeitgeist and our collective experiences on earth; a way to connect. You are one such creator Mr. Briefed and I appreciate you for it, and thank you for sharing the parts of your life that led you here, to a point where you can reach others in ways you never expected, sharing stories many would've otherwise never heard or had impacted them. Because that's why we tell stories, to learn, to be impacted by, to escape, to connect, to teach, to discover, to internalise, to externalise, etc etc etc, to be human.

I have this thing. I forget it is Sunday each Sunday. Until I get my notification of your video. Then I am happy that it is Sunday. Thanks for not dumbing things down, and I’m glad that you were able to find solace in entertainment as well as make it your job. You’re excellent at it.

Hey man. Massive struggles with anxiety and depression here. Your videos definitely make me smile (when my face isn't twisted in horror at some of these Roman Emperors, etc) when I need it. And the One Piece series in particular, because that show is my comfort food right now. It's binge-proof. I will have it around for years trying to get through it all, so those characters feel like friends more than the usual shows that don't have 1,200 episodes or whatever. Seeing one of my favorite creators give it love and attention always makes my day. We're blessed you found yourself here doing this, so my sincere thanks to you. Be blessed.

I'm currently going through a spell of reemerging depression and anxiety. I completely understood what you tried to convey through this post as I also use entertainment/education as a way to hold onto my sense of self and hope. Thank you for what you do; it absolutely makes a significant and important impact on other people trying to navigate life.

I agree that the division between entertainment and education is wholly unnecessary . I found your recent video on George Washington quite educational from a historic perspective and it also gave me a new lens with which to evaluate the current political situation in my country . So It was educational on two levels but also entertaining . I thoroughly enjoyed the storytelling. It is a blessing that your talents are such that you can provide your viewers with both .

Briefed
Time for a personal story from Briefed’s private life:
Why I do what I do.
Every once in a while, I get comments saying that I am a part of their Sunday routine, or that my videos brighten their day… that they look forward to it, and... more along those lines.
These comments make me VERY, VERY happy.
very.
emotional too.
Back in the day, in my teenage and adolescent years, I used to struggle with depression and anxiety, and certain entertainment formats were a beacon of light that helped me pull through. Particularly 'Friends', but also other shows. YouTube to a lesser extent, because it wasn’t as much of a thing back then yet.
That is one of the biggest reasons I chose “entertainment” as my profession. You might not know this, but I started as a script writer — and also published a novel — and I was the creative director for the gaming news/entertainment website EarlyGame.
On this path to providing the people with entertainment, I often wondered and doubted if what I’m doing is worthwhile, you know… compared to doctors or nurses or firemen or caretakers… these people actually make a visible difference day in, day out. They are heroes, and here I am just… entertaining.
But then I remember Friends.
Entertainment that literally saved me from darkness, at a time when no doctor — or more specifically: therapist — could. Friends gave me the energy to pull myself together and undertake all the other measures to escape depression, it was the light that I needed to find a way.
Now… as a means of full escape, entertainment can be dangerous, as it is something you can get lost in, especially now in this era of doom-scrolling and social media... but as a source of energy for other productive means of taking care of yourself, the right entertainment... it is beautiful.
(note that therapy eventually did help and was crucial, and I am VERY supportive of therapy, and please do not dismiss therapy — it can change your life)
Anyway... I think I structured this poorly. Good thing that structure and storytelling is not my job.
I just wanted to voice these thoughts.
Oh, and speaking of poor structure… I need to say more:
Nowadays there is also a lot of entertainment that is dumbed down specifically to… dumb us down. That’s where the educational part comes into Briefed.
Well… I guess, in fact, the educational part is bigger than the entertainment part in my videos anyway, but I never saw education and entertainment as separate things:
I can get a lot of depths and philosophical discussions out of my entertainment, and I can get a lot of entertainment out of my education.
If the education and/or entertainment is high quality… it’s one and the same.
I can’t tell you the hours of conversations I’ve had about whether or not Batman should kill the Joker or the philosophies in Game of Thrones or pondering moral decisions I made in video games.
This seperation between educaiton and entertainment is silly to me, and a part of my motivation was to bridge that gap.
So… that’s that ramble haha
The point, I believe, was:
To know that my content is a part of peoples' routines and everyday now reminds of what good content creators have done for me in the past and that makes me very happy.
Thank you all.
P.S.: The Vegetable Wars continue.... *insert brooding music* ...
