U.S. Colt 1905

Following repeated protests from the U.S. Cavalry, any hope of holding on to a small bore handgun was lost. The New Army wasn't well liked and Colt's 38 ACP wasn't going to win either. This meant the 1902 pistol had to be redesigned to handle a 45 caliber, which means this pistol is the one that introduced 45 ACP. An underside locking shoulder was added to handle the recoil and the gun overall was shortened up. This model entered full commercial production in anticipation of government adoption, but as we know that never came.
