It’s a video destined to be misunderstood (or intentionally mischaracterized) but maybe that makes it important. 😁

I’m all for writing fucked-up romantic/sexual stories; I’m all for writing dead dove fiction… but writing fucked-up stories, not properly tagged, published for mainstream audiences, with a seemingly deliberate ignorance of how fucked up the situation is… it really does come off like an insidious attempt to normalize bad sexual politics. That’s my stance on things.

Your vid popped up in my feed, and I watched it while watering my lawn last night. I was so impressed, girl, like damn. Instant subscribe. I really wish I could like me some dark romance but all the authors seem to use the genre as some kind of personal edgelord battle in the disclaimers. It's never about the character exploration and always about inventing new crazy kinks or whatever. sigh

The problems are the laundering (fetishization, romanticizing, pinkwashing) of oligarchy, child predation, and SA mainly (imo) That is the actual darkness in the works but the word is misattributed to an aesthetic of language and worldbuilding.

Can anyone explain to me why youtubers now frequently change the title and image of videos? I'm just curious why and how that's become a part of the process.

New thumbnail for the new video📓👩🏾🏫 Just in case you missed it!
This video is all about dark romance (no, not just the most controversial titles). It covers the centuries long history of the genre, the structure of it, and its literary tropes. Why is this type of romance so evergreen? What does it say about desire? What are its limits? By contextualizing the genre in pop culture and broadening the lens through which we view it, I implore you to consider: in addition to criticizing the genre for its harmful politics, how else can we contend with the work?
TLDR: I put my English degree to use for real this time 😗
