With me being a Connecticut resident, please wish me luck in the annual Vicki Soto 5K, which will take place on the morning of November 1st 2025, in Bridgeport CT! For those of you who don’t know, Victoria Soto was someone from my town who graduated from not my alma mater, but the other high school in my town, and later Southern Connecticut State University, which isn’t too far from the college that I currently attend, CT State Community College Gateway. Both schools are in New Haven CT. She taught at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, which isn’t too far from my location. Unfortunately for her, she was there when the shooting happened on December 14th 2012, and decided to sacrifice her life to save her class. Using her body to shield her students from the gunfire, about half of them were able to escape. She was nationally known as “The Hero Teacher”, and I am still devastated about what happened. Not only was it Christmastime, or right in my area, but the victims were just really young kids. To make sure that her memory, and of course the remembrance of her sacrifice, is kept, and also to raise money for her memorial fund, I participate in the annual Vicki Soto 5K run. This year’s race, like I said, takes place on the morning of November 1st 2025. Best of luck to everyone I know who are joining the thousands of people doing it!
