For a good dev team and great game there's no excuse, but if the game is inaccessible through most mediums it can be a grey spot, but if the game and it's creators/producers don't care for their customers then I'd say probably alright as to not directly support bad practices

Pay to win games with predatory monetization (especially if you restrict yourself to single player) are free game for pirating. If they want me to spend hundreds of Dollars for a game that is borderline unplayable without spending money then Yo ho a pirates life for me.
