윤옥골에서 가막머리해변까지 왕복 6,620m(6.6km), 약 4시간의 해안 트레킹. 바닷가 바위길은 험난했지만 20억년~12억년의 지질을 손에 잡히듯 경험할 수 있는 특별한 여정이었습니다.
하지만 가막머리 해변에서 두 개의 돌기둥을 촬영하던 중, 밀물이 빠르게 차오르며 서만도·동만도 앞 풀등 모래해변이 모두 잠기기 시작해 위험을 느끼고 서둘러 이동했습니다. 그 순간 바위를 헛디뎌 왼쪽 어깨–옆구리–엉덩이 측면으로 그대로 수평 꽈당 넘어졌습니다. 돌아오는 길에 보니, 배터리 방전 전까지 촬영하던 iPhone 13 Pro Max가 호주머니에서 박살 나 있었습니다. 빙판길보다 충격이 강했는지 아직도 멍이 남아 있네요.
가막머리 해변은 절벽이라 전망대로 올라갈 수 없고, 밀물 시에는 약 100m를 더 돌아 건어장해변 쪽 산길로 우회해야 하는데, 가시덤불과 급경사로 매우 힘든 구간이었습니다. 이후 해안 보호대와 받줄이 있는 트레일 구간은 비교적 수월했지만, 해안선 촬영만 3~4시간 하다 보니 다리가 완전히 풀려 버렸습니다.
지질 촬영을 하실 분들은 밀물·썰물 시간, 배 시간, 안전 구간을 반드시 확인하세요. 추천 코스는 윤오골까지 해안 트레킹 후, 캣티길을 통해 해안선 걷기입니다. 산 위 능선 트레킹은 조망은 좋지만, 20억~12억년 지질을 직접 관찰할 수 없기 때문입니다. The rocky shoreline is challenging, but it offers a rare opportunity to experience 2-billion- to 1.2-billion-year-old geological formations up close.
While filming the two rock pillars at Gamakmeori Beach, the scenery was stunning, but the tide began rising quickly. The sandbars in front of Seomando and Dongmando were completely submerged, and I realized it would soon become dangerous. As I hurried to move out, I misstepped on a rock and fell horizontally on my left side — shoulder, ribs, and hip.
On the way back, I found that the iPhone 13 Pro Max I had been filming with (until the battery died) was completely shattered inside my pocket. The impact was even stronger than slipping on an icy road, and I still have bruises from the fall.
Because Gamakmeori Beach ends at a cliff, it is impossible to climb directly up to the Gamakmeori Viewpoint. With the high tide blocking the beach, I had to detour nearly 100 meters toward Geoneojang Beach and climb up the mountain. The route was extremely tough due to thorn bushes and steep terrain. Only after reaching the coastal safety ropes and barrier trail did the trekking become easier — but after 3–4 hours of filming along the shoreline, my legs were completely exhausted.
If you’re planning geological photography here, please always check tide times, boat schedules, and safety conditions in advance. For visitors, I recommend trekking along the coast only up to Yunokgol, then taking the Catty Trail to continue along the shoreline. The ridge trail offers ocean views, but you won’t be able to observe the Precambrian geological layers from above.
