In the beginning it was sublime. Great chords, fantastic arrangement of this old gospel standard. But gradually it went off the rails thanks to the Ringmasters. I know the groups are different, but I guess what I love so much about Voces 8, the tight execution and superb blend, was obliterated because two of the Ringmasters in particular were so emotional that I couldn’t look at the entire group. It became a fundamental song fest from my childhood. Then the song wore its emotion with too much intensity and entirely on its sleeve, and all subtlety was lost. With the emotional and boisterous last half, it would have totally left me in tears. Not a successful collaboration in my opinion.
