I love difficult games. That being said put a damn bench next to every boss battle. Thank you.

Boss run backs are also a way to generate the currency of the games from the mobs while also getting practice in before the boss. I think the shortening of the distance has been great since the dark souls games, and where its at now amongst all the souls likes has been pretty fair.

I wouldn't call them bad.,but can be frustrating/unneeded in the modern era of gaming.

Honestly most aren't even that bad like Last Judge but Bile Water is awful im glad its there but I hate it also

They aren't fun but they do serve a purpose. I've found that a lot of people who don't like souls-like/metrovania games are playing them wrong. Not in a "git gud" sense, but that they feel when they reach a part they can't beat, they have no option other than to bash up against the obstacle repeatedly until they either beat it or uninstall the game. The better approach is to go and try something else. Having to run back to get to the boss can help in opening up other options to try, so the player can come back when they are stronger.

I like them. They have purpose, and are part of what the devs wanted the experience to be.

I think they can kill the drive to even fight the boss to begin with, because after a death you don't just fight the boss again, you fight him and everything else in between, I'm on groal right now I've only fought him twice but it already sucks

Only run back in this ive particularly hated is for bile water, i just do the platforming and avoid enemies for the most part if i need to do a run back, and if i get too frustrated with the boss i go do other things like explore and get more tools

Runbacks should at least be OPTIONAL for grinding if you’re underleveled. I don’t want to go through an area for 10 minutes to fight a boss for the 4th time

It should be option not forced if I make the wrong turn it should be a simple yes or no if I click no push my player back 10 steps that’s it !

It certainly doesn't add anything to the experience. At best it just exists

Haven’t played the game but this would be something I don’t have patience for in a modern game.

Souls games did not have insane runbacks. Cuphead doesn't either. They just need to let the player get up and fight. Nobody finds the runbacks even remotely entertaining.

I have zero interest in boss rushes and replays. It’s lazy and a terrible idea to think that everyone of the fights was fun. I watched enough gameplay to know that it’s very frustrating.

IGN
Complaints about the punishing runbacks in Hollow Knight: Silksong have reignited the argument about whether or not they're actually even fun. What do you think?
