That is the initial bill they give to insurance companies, who then bargain them down by 95%. Tell them you will only pay what the insurance company would ultimately pay. It's such a mess.

I fell and shattered my elbow several years ago. After my visit to the ER, I had outpatient surgery to repair/brace the shattered bone with a plate. There was a payment plan, alright. $75 to $150 a month for each one of the 10 different bills I received (orthopedic surgeon, anesthesiologist, radiologist, ER doctor, hospital, etc.). That was after Medicare payments were deducted! There was no way I could pay that much per month. I know exactly what you are going through.

I have known about this for a long, long time, you know my sister was living in USA for more than fourty years, just her insurance per month blew me away, yet so many health issues wasn't even included..... Could you in any way pay for it, or do you want us, the Griffi Tribe, to start a fund raiser? I'm sure that most of us would contribute.... I know it's hard like hell to ask for help, but sometimes, it's all you can do.... Please let me know....

What is worse is the CEO, CFO and such make bank, and medical is run by mass amounts of behind the scene workers. Its set up to fail for the patients. So much evil in this world. Praying for you!!

Oh Alana. How awful for you to have to go through this is addition to everything else. I am so sorry to hear it. Can you fight the bill - would you be comfortable doing that? I’ve seen reporting that they inflate the charges to collect money for others who did not pay because they could not pay. Robbing Peter to pay for Paul, as it were. I am wishing you all kinds of well… and better and better….

I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. Makes me very glad I'm in new Zealand lol. I don't have health insurance but we have a scheme called Kiwisaver where you can deposit 10% of your wages plus more if you want too, and only take it out for retirement or buy a first home, medical Bill's or "financial hardship." I'm about to jump through hoops to access some of mine for revision surgery. Fingers crossed.... I'll be thinking of you

Yeah thats alot of the Problem some higher ups Definitely Need to take a Pay Cut. Agree with you 100% on That. But You Know They've got to Have all Those Fancy Expensive Houses and Cars. Problem is Dr's Used to Care. Now Its All About "Money" Maybe It Should Back to The Times Where a Country Dr Got a Dozen Eggs a Baked Good or Invitation to Sunday Supper and See How They Like That.

I have been going to similar though likely a less pressing procedure.... I am so, so sorry that you're having to deal with this! ! 😡 It is broken the hell all over. Yeah, been there, done that. Dont pay. They cant refuse to provide care. They will hound you for eternity, but if the money isnt there, you just ask for financial assistance after. Dont let them try to convince you to pay anything up front.

The health system in this country is so broken. Let me give you my personal example.
My spine surgery is coming up and the hospital called me for pre-register. They proceed to get all my my info and then say ok well your payment due today is 6k....... I was like wait what?
She said yes how yould you like to pay for that? I was like ummm.... I can't? Who has 6k in their bank account to just "pay" a copay?
She proceeded to tell me ok well we have payment plans. I was like ok so how much is the total bill?
Her answer 70k! I was like wait is that total for everything? NOPE the surgeon and the anesthesia people bill me separately.....
Ok wait a minute.... let me do this micky mouse math..... 1 F'n night in the hospital is 70 THOUSAND DOLLARS??????!!!!! AND THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING BUT JUST THE HOSPITAL? Yup....
what in the hell.... I just want to throw up with our health care system.
