‪@Lynn_Loheide‬ has a great video responding to my recent post I would recommend watching! A lot of comments have noticed I may be acting from a sunken coat fallacy & an incredibly privileged position and that is true ! I’m taking time to think about this difficult conversation but I’m always open to different perspectives and those who disagree with me. I hope this can be a productive jumping off point and I plan to make a follow up video to address where I was lacking 🫶

I always appreciate your transparency and I love the way you conduct yourself. It’s rare to see an open minded individual. Thanks for your input on this and being so open with your platform!

I absolutely adore you so so much!! It takes a lottt to be able to pause and take a real second look at something from a different perspective. Not to mention stating it in a humble and kind way 💚 you're brave af and I can't wait to hear your thoughts again, whatever they may be

I really like you and your channel. I for real have watched every single one of your videos. At first I wasn't sure why they were such comfort videos to me that I would often watch at dinner, but then I realized it was because besides the interesting topic of tattooing, you're actually a very good content creator. And by that I mean it's clear you do your research, you're careful with your words/imput and actions and isn't afraid to tackle difficult topics while being very open and polite. Leraning never ends and I wish you prosperity and an ever growing channel!

I think everyone here can appreciate that Lynn being older and more established has seen more of the industry to have strong opinions on and has more freedom to express those opinions without worrying about offending people. Take care of yourself and that privilege will come with time

i really enjoyed your video! I am 1000% for paying your apprentices but being neutral on it (for someone in your position) is ok. You yourself are getting a lot out of your apprenticeship. You see the value in it unpaid or not. This is not the same as saying "apprentices should not be paid" but more saying "apprenticeships are incredibly valuable and i dont want to judge anyone's experience paid or unpaid". That is completely ok. And yes, unpaid apprenticeships are only accessible by those able to do so BUT you addressed that yourself in the video. and also.. im not going to assume that you are an insanely privileged individual when really I don't (or anyone else here) actually knows what is going on in your life or any of the sacrifices you are having to make to be doing an unpaid apprenticeship.

Heyy! I don't know if this sounds interesting for a video idea, but I have dermatographia, which is a skin condition where I get red bumps after scratching, which is the reason why I am afraid of getting a tattoo. So my question is, would you make a video discussing getting tattoos with this skin condition and others like ezcema or on scars ect? I appreciate your work and love your videos ❤️

Thank you for acknowledging your privilege. It's really hard watching someone say that you should work for free when I was in slavery for a year being told I didn't deserve to be paid whenever I would ask about my paycheck. I understand that the senior artist should be compensated for their years of experience but having someone work completely unpaid is just wrong. If you wanting only to be paid to teach become a teacher. Make your own tattoo school if there aren't any, this free labor thing really needs to die. It's hard enough for people to survive working a paying job how do you expect them to live off nothing while taking up all of their time. Only people in your kind of position could do something like this and that puts a really bad taste in my mouth. It makes me sick to think of how many people are being taken advantage of like this.

@Magikct

Like are you even officially on the studios insurance ? Are you covered if something happens to you while working, cause the fact you're not paid means legally and tax wise you're not employed, same for of you're paid in cash under the table. But you're not officially covered by any job site incidents, cause you're not officially on their books, and legally you can't be cause you're not being paid for working. I once had a huge issue within a massive retail company, and the company didnt want anything to do with it, and treated the whole situation wrong, my doctor was the one that saved me from having to deal with a work place incident myself, and got my work involved, she saved me from something I never thought would happen

@EsmeraldaWolfsbane7777

Sorry but I live in nyc and tattoos are waaaay more expensive, I leave a large tip for the tattoo artist and so if they want to give half of that to the apprentice that's their business as a shop owner.

@Magikct

Eliminate the whole entitlement argument, cause if you're willing to work free for any reason that's impressive. But It is a little wild from an outsider perspective that apprentices are not being paid, and it seems like this factor is also the reason why the tattoo industry is currently the way it is, and you get pretentious artists selling highly priced art or pericings due to years of skills obtained by working free. Cause if it wasn't so hard to get into, if skills weren't gate kept behind pay walls you'd have alot more studios, and alot more artists, and tattoos and certain artist would not be so highly priced I couldn't imagine paying someone to apprentice as a brick layer or plumber But yea very interesting conversation

@aPLAGUE0113

I’ve never heard of an apprentice tattooer work full time? I’ve known they work two or three days and they work their paid job the others days…

@celle As someone who is almost literally in the same boat as you are but from a different side of the world going through a different journey I would say that yes you can say that you are privileged but I think that that's a bit of a simplification of it personally I thought a lot like you and and I walked into the tattoo world fully willing to do everything the traditional way not problems whatsoever because I had the hunger to learn however I kept getting burned burn burn burn and burned again in so many ways and such different forms that truly just opened my eyes I think that you are being kind and trustworthy to the industry and the traditions it maintains but things are unfortunately not that simple. All I'd like to say is that I suggest you keep your eyes open Make no attachments because the fact of the matter is in one way or another there is no real allegiances in this kind of work you said it yourself it is an unregulated industry you understand that and where I'm from jobs like tattoos Jobs that rely on apprenticeship type learning in in my country we say you don't learn these professions you steal them because no one gives them to you nobody teachers they offer you a place when you can observe and"steal" there's a lot more work that goes into explaining and really unveiling this entire conversation and all The factors wrapped in it. So I just wanted to say I wish you the best I hope we both end up being capable tattoos but please be cautious be observant and trust no one. In jobs in which The apprentice is seen as the next person to take your clients it's best to always keep your eyes open and be cautious of those who teach you best of luck.
