As some of you have astutely observed, I don't often cover heavy criminal cases. I learned behavioral analysis as an entertainer, to make people smile, and unlike many of my colleagues, when I see evil in people, I have a hard time shaking it off. This is also the reason I never pursued a career in working with criminals despite many opportunities.
That said, when a lot of you asked me to look at Bryan Kohberger, I did, and I had too much to say about a situation that a lot of people online misread. This wasn't an absence of reaction, it was a festival of reactions and my experience is specifically in reading reactions when a person is listening. There were things that I have seen so many times and am so familiar with! So i decided to cover it.
As you all know, I'm a new father, a role and title that I cherish more than anything I have ever had on this earth. Watching these parents fall apart was not easy, I took a lot of breaks, but I got through what I felt was a very important analysis...
Seeing your comments on today's video has filled my heart to a degree I cannot explain. This has got to me THE most positive feedback on any video I've done. Specifically about the small reactions I caught as a result of my experience in cold reading but MOSTLY about the segment I did about empathy as it relates to autism, this was an extremely important point for me to make in this case and the comments are flooded by viewers who either have ASD or know someone who does, feeling heard and validated. I have read your stories about your family members and I am so glad that I've been able to put it in terms that appears to be very appreciated based on the comments!
Thanks all, you have made this difficult topic worth it for me because we took something dark and evil and squeezed a drop of positivity out of it when it comes to openly discussing an often misunderstood condition.
The Behavioral Arts
Confession: this was a rough week for me.
