There is so much media, we will never be able to take it all in. Enjoy the massive backlog and wait for reviews on new stuff. No more preorders.

There are games where 80€ price would be easily justified. Elden ring and BG3 would still be dirt cheap at that price for the value you are getting. But the studios who are making those games aren't asking for that much, and it's serving them well; I bought two copies of BG3, one for me and one for my sister (who has already put over 1000 hours into it and is not done). So instead of 80€, Larian got 120€ from me, and got me to buy also Divinity 2. If the base price was 80€ that probably would not have happened.

I dont think they know it yet, but once these waves of $80 games starts to hit, many people that would have maybe bought 2 different games, will only choose to get one now instead. Sales across the board will be going down for individual games. The AAA industry is gonna cannibalize itself and each other's sales, while $40-$50 indie games will continue to rise. We are gonna be in for a real treat once the realization sets in that they messed up.

Id sooner work on my backlog or replay one of my many favorites that will offer me more for less. This industry has proven that even when it’s at its best, it can’t measure up to what’s already been done. I have more fun these days with old games (even ones I’ve never played before, so no nostalgia factor) than I do with new ones, and while the novelty of a new experience might be entertaining, to me novelty isn’t worth an $80 price tag. Especially when that’s all they can offer.

I play on average 4-5 games a year. I play them typically for hundreds of hours. I have no problem paying $80-$100 for them. I paid $120 I think for RDR2? Put over a thousand hours into it and it's multiplayer? Those are just the kinds of games I play.

Let me put it like this: Every couple of years there is a game Id pay 80$ or more. Its mainly a question of quality.

Ill rather pirate than pay a lot for games that doesn't match its price.

Game producing is like movies in hollywood. Its full of bloat and passionless people. I have prefered indi games for a few years now. I preffer a small team that wants to make the game instead of making a wage

In my humble opinion, AAA publishers have been pushing players/customers too far for years now. The answer to whether or not I'd spend $80 on a game is very simple. If the reviews and trailers are convincing then sure. I've bought and played many a game that I thought were worth $80 or more. Video games are no different than any other product it's value will simply equate to whatever you are willing to pay for it. The main problem with AAA publishers is they're not making $80 games again my humble opinion.

Padda
Would you pay $80 for a new game?
Or are AAA studios starting to push players too far?
Here’s why I think this shift might actually be a good thing… 👇
