Design Prototype Test

I've got a few Chinese companies wanting to send me products for review but they are insisting that I sign up for their affiliate programs. I have always turned down such offers. I've been jealously guarding my impartiality. Perhaps I've been foolishly thinking I was building a good reputation despite being vilified by tHe cOmMunItY. I've never done an affiliate link that paid me before. Would you guys still trust me if I did? Currently I make next to nothing for my videos. That one about the $75 printer did not even pay for the printer let alone my time. My wonderfully kind patron supporters provide most of my revenue. Should I just start promoting every decent product that comes my way?

Sounds like a dangerous path. At First it’s something you can stop anytime, then you get used to it then you’re reviewing something each week while burning out on how dumb and shady the products you are promoting. You become dependent. Your take on Prusa was possible because you were not dependent on that income. But if you need money go for it! I used to import Chinese products and sell them, part of me dies inside knowing how half assed they can be but also needing to pay bills keep employees paid etc. I used to be a pro “made in china” guy and slowly despised it.

@Antrim3d

The sole reason I subscribed to your channel years ago was that I felt you were not sugar coating shortcomings of products, regardless of the brand. I felt you always presented your material in a way that it was obvious it wasn't for a cheap buck. If you'd had affiliate links in the past, I would've trusted those as well. You have remarkable insights, and there is absolutely no shame in earning something for your time. Keep on, keeping on brother. 👍

With the years I have been watching your content, and you asking this very question. Makes me believe you have a set of morals that you hold yourself to. I would not hold it against you if you started using affiliate links to possibly get paid. I do not think you will abandon your morals for some money. Keep making GREAT content!

@mariusc2137

well, if the affiliate links and whatever terms they.ll ask you to sign dont influence your opinion on said product and you.re the same DPT guy as before, why not? I love your honesty when reviewing stuff, if things stay the same but you get an extra buck, im all for it.

@williwonti

Just be honest. If you can't tell the truth don't take the free stuff

@brawndo8726

I wouldn't care if there was an affiliate deal if the video provided all the reasons not to buy the printer.

@b_meunier

If you sell something you wouldn't buy, I'm done. We also know you don't need our social approval, so your reviews will always be really useful.

@digus

As long as you remain honest and transparent, I see no problem with it. Seems like most here also agree.

If it wasn’t a Chinese company then yes. But they are known for underhanded dealings and not paying creators if they don’t say exactly what they want as well as sending working ones to reviewers while the mass production is shady at best

China is not always synonymous with crap. I have a bunch of neat items from China such as retro handhelds and creative measuring devices that are actually quite nice. I say give it a go and give your honest opinion!

@fugitiveminded

Id still trust your integrity if you did. Plus why not?! You get to review more products and may get more for your time and effort!

@KStovr

As long as they don't police your opinions. But I've rarely seen an affiliate link under a scathing review

@ZeroAlligator

Just say that you’re getting paid and it’s fine, make some money and give your honest opinions.

Find people in the US producing 3D printing products and promote their products instead. China is going away brother.

@metalinspired

As long as you are allowed to give honest reviews then why not. But if the agreement specifies something along the side that you have to praise their products even to they are garbage I would say no.

@Metapharsical

I'm a hardliner, Anti-CCP (see my subs) I know you're well informed, I've been watching for years. I can see how you fairly criticize Chinese 'low-trust' market practices or Gov policies, while in the same breath praising their individual ingenuity and collective industrial might. You've visited there, toured the factories, seen the juxtaposition of Capitalism with Chinese Socialist Characteristics ... I'm sure the smells were something to remember, but I digress... TL;DR I respect your intellect. I don't respect China's Gov and I don't support their people. The vast majority of them are not in alignment with our principles. You do deals with them at your own peril. Never forget SARS-CoV-2 Good luck. I'm sure they won't pull out the second they find you saying anything political about China.
