Hey everyone, I didn't realise how terrible youtube auto translation was. I've just turned off for all videos. Maybe if it gets better I'll turn it back on but it seems like it has a long way to go.

Thanks for letting me know!

Still haven't forgiven you for calling me a denizen of ethanol in Swedish

It can be pretty bad but still useful for those of us who frequently have to watch without sound. You get used to realizing when it chooses the wrong word and figuring out what was actually said through context.

Really hope you mean the titles, not the subtitles. While the subtitles aren't the best, of course. It's still better than nothing. I've read the captions in korean and spanish. Both are very understandable. Your videos have pushed my parents (who use the subtitles) out of many pseudoscience bs they thought was real. In any case, best of luck!

I have been living in Liaoning, China for just over the past ten years and finally got to visit the feathered dinosaur fossil museum a few weeks ago, about a six-hour-drive north of Dalian, the city I'm in. What a treasure trove! So many amazing finds on display. One of my neighbors mentioned that when she grew up, farmers were selling dinosaur sleletons for just 10 renminbi. Now those fossil beds are protected and there's a bunch of finds to be uncovered. The most common ones to be found are fish, so you can still buy little fish fossils for cheap. Although most of the famous feathered dinosaurs I was familiar with, I didnt know there was already a small bird (antibird) living 170 million years ago, called Liaoxiornis delicatus.

Stefano thanks for your videos, I've just unlocked a real interest, which is rare for me. I like to watch both high and sober.

Stefan, The English - Brazilian Portuguese translation subtitles works very well. hugs from a Brazilian fan of your promotional work. And I'd rather hear the original Stefan's voice than the one generated by a computer.

Hey Stefan, I don't want to impinge on your decisions—ultimately, what you do with your channel is your prerogative. However, to do a little backseat advising, I'd highly, highly, highly recommend hiring transcribers from here on out for every video. From what I've heard, they're not terribly expensive. The cost then would easily be offset by any revenues from the video. I'd also recommend using them to transcribe your back catalogue. I know you've got a lot of content, so it might be prudent to start with your most popular stuff first and decide from there. Tom Scott said it best—accessibility is a right. Besides, I'd hate to see the massive hard of hearing and deaf community miss out on such an incredible archaeaology communicator. I do hope you consider what I've said here. Much love! -Patrick

Hi Stefan! I agree with some here, That the English to Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish works well. At least when I use this option for my multilingual students - That’s what they share with me.

I've never heard the video translations but even the video title translations are bad. For some reason YT insists on translating every video title and description. For example your latest video originally called "Prehistoric Europe was absolutely metal" is translated as "FINAL EUROPEA DE METAL CON ANUNCIO LEÍDO" meaning "The end of European metal with an ad reading" 😂

Greetings from Uruguay. The spanish auto translate... works. That's it. It helps sometimes, and usually does a horrible, terrible work on the video title. I love your work, keep it up.

Thanks! I always get an awful German AI voice when I start watching Forrest Valkai's videos. I don't know why, I turned all of my YouTube to English, but still I cannot shake my mother tongue 😂

Hope you're not turning off subtitbles all together? They are super useful even if not 100% correct all the time.

To be honest, I don’t think auto translation work that bad, I do prefer to see it on your original language but not for that reason. Cheers from Mexico, I love your videos
