What makes certain animals, as far as veterinary science goes, exotic? Is there any history behind the term’s use? My rabbit is classed as an exotic animal, but he’s native to my region. Do non western cultures use this terminology differently?

I love the idea of it but I interned at a vet and it was too much. They don’t prepare you for your first day for foster “parents” to bring in a probably 3 week old kitten with an exploded bladder because they neglected to stimulate it so it could use the bathroom. Nor to they prepare you for those same fosters to not care and tell you to put the cat down and leaving. Had to put that baby in a trash bag :(
