I think what animation fans appreciate most about villains is their motives and goals that they want to accomplish, because they’re so mean, cruel, and nasty that they will do anything in their power to achieve it, even while ignoring the consequences of their actions. Like ruling the world, satisfying their lust for power, and becoming immortal. Their personality carries the stories they’re featured in and I think that’s what makes them interesting adversaries to the protagonist. That’s probably why I love writing Dracco in Dimension Ride.

@gamerbro8399

1) Their motivations 2) Their portrayals 3) Their presence (depending on what kind of villain are they) 4) How they impact the protagonist 5) How evil/threatening they are

Exactly, it’s so tiring to see villains that are so bland and have no or very little motivation. Sure, not every Villain has to be deep and powerful, but they feel more “human” when they actually have something worth their actions. Either way, I’m interested to see where you take Dracco in Dimensional Ride

@coadjacob

That’s what makes them so memorable despite how much we want to hate them. ^^

Agreed. Plus I love characters that have gremlin energy. ):3

I have a villain character who is a member of an original species of mine that harnesses darkness, but this species isn't evil, they're helpful. Except for him. He wants to plunge the world into darkness and eliminate the other elements, especially light. Other things he's done: -fathered kids for the sole purpose of making powerful offspring and controlling them (this didn't work as they turned against him) -killed one of the said mothers -kidnapped people multiple times -is overall just not a good person Interesting villains don't always need a tragic backstory to justify/give reason to their actions to be interesting, sometimes they're just like that and their actions/goals in itself makes them interesting :)

There are some really good villains that do make good points too. One villain that comes to my mind is John Kramer. He might be from a horror movie, but his character is an example of a good villain arc.

I personally also love if a villain has the opposite beliefs/worldview/quality traits which mirrors to what the protagonist has or must struggle to achieve I'm more of a fan with antagonist who serve as a foil to the narrative.

It's all about the hook If a villain doesn't have the hook, then your movie or show is in for a downward spiral of massive problems
