There are four stages to follow while delegating the tasks to others.

1. I do; you watch.
2. I do; you help.
3. You do; I help.
4. You do; I watch

By adhering to these steps, the work process becomes more efficient and productive. Skipping the first three stages and directly jumping to the fourth will lead to disastrous outcomes for the team

I had a coworker that I took over the weekly software build process from, his model was: 1. I do, you watch 2. You do, I watch and give you hints if you're stuck 3. I from this day forward feign ignorance, you're on your own kid. It wasn't quite that draconian, if I ran into a real problem he'd help. But for all the routine stuff he'd gone over it was on me to figure it out. When I passed on the job it was a little easier for the next person. I had a checklist of all the steps and a few notes. The build process had grown by then as I'd found a few things we weren't doing.
