Here's some notes and tips on why and how to approach warm-ups:
On the why of warm-ups: - Gives you room for error before jumping in to your main session - Helps get you "ready" before your main art session - Helps get out messy movements from your hand - Helps get out the "wonky" sketches - Solves Art Block (there are exceptions) - Gives you the opportunity to lay around with tools and materials - You can try out your new pens, pencils, markers, and brushes!
On what to draw/sketch: - Draw something that brings you joy - Draw something you know how to draw (confidence) - Draw more loosely or gestural
On using references: - It's okay to use some reference even for warm-ups - You don't have to rely on just one reference - You can have a bunch and mix-and-match them in your sketches
