This one doesn’t feel real man. We really lost Angie stone and D’Angelo in the same year. RIP to these angels. I thank them for bringing so much love and joy in my life. Black messiah and Voodoo will forever be two of the greatest albums to me(and in music history).

Damn bro that's real as fuck. RIP to D'Angelo. Him and Dilla are two of the backbones of the modern jazz sound. A world without him is gonna be a hard one.

Bill...he was a musical genius and a brilliant artist and a part of so many people's lives. He moved people. Plus, this was your wedding song. It's okay to mourn him and contemplate his legacy. He is worthy of that much. Don't inadvertently dismiss this by downplaying it as a form of parasociality. You said it yourself: great artists are griots and they mean something to the community (and in his case, the world.) I was just listening to the "Black Messiah" and...I am not feeling sick to my stomach as I was when I first heard the news. I remember when I first saw an advert for The Black Messiah when it was first released; I felt a deep sense of relief and gratitude before I'd even heard it because just from the few snippets in the ad, I knew that D'Angelo was going to do, say, play whatever was necessary before I had even bought the CD. (And yes, I do believe that certain artists make art that is necessary, and D'Angelo will forever be one of those artists.)

Pancreatic Cancer is a death sentence. My aunt had it, and within the year she passed. Local record store owner also got it and passed quickly. Not a lot of celebrities raising big money or colors/symbols promoting awareness or research (except Bryan Cranston, shoutout to him). I think the death rate in the first year is in the 90 percents. That family is going through it right now. I hope they all come together, especially for his 15 year old son.

Being rather new too neo soul i would always remember the voices of the artist my mother would play when she dropped me off to school but never their names. His sound though was without doubt recognizable no matter who played him. Rip to a legend
