I flew on AY 1331 on Wednesday and got to try the new seat for the first time: I really liked it. Having just done an overnight from BKK with the old seat, I found the bed was very comfortable, even without the mattress pad and the footwell was cavernous for this side sleeper. The degree of privacy was excellent due to the high walls of the seat. I thought the seat was comfortable and found the lumbar support pillow did a good job supporting my lower back when I was sitting upright, although I felt the seat cushion was maybe a couple of centimetres too short when I used it (I'm 1.88m (6'2")). I believe there is one electric motor that controls the legrest. I, and several other passengers, found the lever to move the small panel that fills the gap between the legrest and footwell very unintuitive and awkward to use. When I asked the flight attendant she said that 2 A330's and 1 A350 had been converted so far, and the aim was to have the entire longhaul fleet converted within a year. She noted that the seat's designer has stated publicly that the new design will divide opinions, but after trying it myself, I give it a thumbs up!

I'll be trying this out on Monday from Heathrow ✈️. The first real new design since sliding doors.

I’m so happy to hear this….I was concerned Finnairs drive for savings on this product would mean a loss of pax comfort…and I love Finnair so that would be a shame. I have a feeling that a lot will come down to preference. Some will hate no recline but I’ve always like stretching and folding my legs and feel claustrophobic in many biz class products…so I’ve got to try this!

No recline. Be interesting to see it handles those wanting to relax. Hope this is not a dumbing down of BC while still charging full whack. No matter how you dress or try to sell it up, less comfort and features IS less comfort and features

Haven't tried it but I don't think I would like it. I need to have a seat that I can put into a "zero gravity position". In fact, I don't even sleep all flat on planes. I find the sweet spot for recline and leg rest and I'm comfortable as can be. The absolute worst modern business class seat I experienced was on Etihad. While the seat reclined, there was no leg rest at all. So, basically, the choices were sitting upright or going full flat.

WOW 🤩 I was not sure if I’d like this new “no recline” business class seat from Finnair but my first impressions are sooo positive! 😮 there are no electronic functions at all to save weight and the bed is formed by folding panels to create a flat surface.
This is really private, super comfortable and a breath of fresh air. I’m on AY1331 right NOW filming this unique, brand new business class seat on the A330. See you on the ground 😉 ✈️
