Djuma Cam

Dear Friends,

We’re overjoyed to share some deeply personal news with you all. After years of watching over this special waterhole cam, one that first came to life on 17th August 1998 with Graham Wallington and Paul Clifford from Africam, we’re thrilled to announce that the Djuma Cam is coming home.

Back then, our little cam, originally set up overlooking a modest waterhole at Djuma Bush Lodge (now Cheetah Plains), quickly found its forever home at Gowrie Dam in front of Vuyatela Lodge on Djuma Game Reserve, right here in the Sabi Sands Nature Reserve. Who could have imagined that this simple setup would capture the hearts of millions worldwide? From watching Safari, the brave one-eyed leopard, to seeing her daughter Karula become the first queen of Djuma, and now marveling at Tlalamba, our current reigning monarch, every moment has been a testament to the magic of this place.

The journey continued with many unforgettable chapters. In 2007, Wildearth was born on Djuma, launching LIVE safaris that brought the wonders of our home even closer to you. Then, in 2014, National Geographic took the adventure global with safariLIVE, and millions sat in awe on the largest safari vehicle in the world.

As we bid farewell to the last WildEarth LIVE safari this past February, a new chapter begins. We are taking over the running of the Djuma Cam, and soon a brand new camera system will be in place, ensuring that this legacy of being the longest running nature cam continues into the future. While we don’t have a firm restart date yet, our goal is to have everything set up by the end of March so that you never miss a moment of the beautiful comings and goings at Djuma.

We invite you to stay connected through our Facebook, Instagram, YouTube channel and here on the Djuma.com blog for all the latest updates. And if you’d like to become a Zoomie please drop us a line at zoom@djuma.com or if you want to be a moderator then email mod@djuma.com and we will put you on the waiting list. Currently we have a full complement of mods and zoomies but from time to time opportunities do open up and we will always go to the waiting list first.

You can also support us by checking out the new Djuma Cam shop, where we’ll be adding fresh Djuma Cam merchandise regularly.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your unwavering support and the incredible outpouring of love for Djuma over the years. We are humbled and inspired by the bond you share with this wild, wonderful home and its amazing animal residents.

With love and excitement for the future,

Jurie and Pippa Moolman

Hi, the cam has been a big part of my YT experience and especially 5 years ago I landed in hospital and the cam was my companion through many nights and still is today Watching from Hadedas to elephants roaming the dam area, looking out for rain to fill the pond when it dried up earlier this year and being overjoyed when virtually overnight it filled up and Dewey and crowd reappeared shortly thereafter Weather and nature fascinates me and following the storms ir light rains always made me more aware of the glory of God! By us and all over the universe! Goodnight and looking forward to seeing you up and running again soon! Louis Pretoria SA

Thank you Jurie & Pippa for sharing part of your beautiful property with us for as long as I have watched, staying up late at night, never knowing what would be shown on the camera! I’m sure the animals know there’s no camera, so will come back when the squirrels & monkeys let them know the cam is up & running! Keep well & thank you again. Love from me in PE 🇿🇦❤️💚

I started watching the cam April 2018, and then the drives shortly after. I deeply appreciate all the information about the wildlife in Djuma and beyond each cam watcher taught me. I cherish the common bond we have being wildlife lovers.

I am so happy to know the Dam Cam will be back. I appreciate the levels of expense and organisation you are going through to make it possible for us to watch over zDjuma. I have been sad since the cam went off for the last time...as l thought that was it! However the good and exciting news is your coming back. I'm soooo pleased you have mods and Zoomies waiting and a new camera. You are are very important to us all. I've missed the favourites like Dewey, the Wilderbeast that thinks he's an Impala, the scenery of your beautiful land with the birds and their song however loud it might be. Thank you so much.
