hard to feel exited for "27.3" as much as for "1.16", the "16th update" and so on

Honestly the biggest concern with this is that it feels like a confirmation that we won't be getting any more big updates anytime soon. Because it means they don't have anything planned that is big enough to be 1.22. I think we'll just have to see whether drops will have enough content to make up for that

It implies that there won't be any big update + it'll be very confusing for returning or new (java) players. Old updates are still 1.7.10, 1.20.1, 1.5.2 etc, but the newer ones are suddenly 26.1.1

Itll work until they realize they want to do a grand update again (e.g. the memed End Update)

Minecraft keeps doing pointless and self-destructive things instead of fixing fundamental internal problems, just like Discord

Better naming system than the old one for what they are doing. Regardless, the update frequency is awful for the modding, plugin, datapack, adventure map, and command block community. Making a project like a mod can take years, and precious development time is wasted chasing versions instead of adding content. Terraria's "large updates every 2-3 years" system is so much better.

I think they're doing it so we can no longer expect big updates.

IMO, there is no need with numeration tinkering. They must just carry on and keep working on more priority things in games.

makes me kind of sad that there wont be any more big updates. i fundamentally understand why, but kinda miss the feeling of waiting for months for a huge update. its kinda harder to follow the game updates now that we get new content all the time, honestly more frequent updates is kinda inconvenient. but like i said, i understand why they made the change, and given that there won't be any more big updates as far as we know, the numbering system makes sense. we can't just keep increasing 1.21.x forever and ever obviously

I'll subconsciously turn every drop into 1.22 1.23 1.24 etc. etc., if there will never be an official 1.22

I’m glad they’re bringing the old numbering system back and that we’re getting 1.29 for Christmas!

What do you guys think of Minecraft's new numbering system? (Update 26.1 instead of 1.22)
They've changed it to be the year (26) and then the drop number (1,2,3, etc)
