The Palestine Pod

Lara joined ‪@aljazeeraenglish‬ on a panel to discuss the role of OSINT and digital evidence in helping establish the facts in Gaza amidst Israel’s denial of entry into Gaza of fact finding investigators and foreign correspondents (save for those who agree to embed with the Israeli occupation forces) and to what extent such evidence can be used in legal proceedings, notably the ICJ and the ICC.

Lara pointed out that what was unique in this case was the troves of self-incriminating videos published gleefully by the perpetrators online such as the videos of Israeli soldiers blowing up entire neighborhoods, firing grenade launchers on houses and smiling, and showing their abuse of Palestinian hostages. She also mentioned how South Africa, in building its case for genocidal intent, relied in its petition before the ICJ on over 60 statements of Israeli leaders, the overwhelming majority of which were published to social media.
