The Kovacs Report

What is your opinion on the current state and quantity of variants and blind-bags? Love them, hate them? Think there's too many and we are heading into the 90s all over again. Let me know what you think...

I'm part of the problem. I don't gamble at casinos or anything but I used to be into Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards and these blind bags are just another form of it. I don't really go hunting for all of the covers, I usually just get one for the fun surprise of it all.

They’re trying to chase the Pokémon style alternate art hype. There’s no chase variant if there aren’t multiple commons!

I'm not keen. If someone is buying it and just happy to have whatever cover they get, even then they've been overcharged. Getting a super rare cover is a gamble with the vast majority ending up on eBay. So who is it really for? It's advertising for DC and I can see it getting sour very quickly

It's a gimmick and honestly just a lottery game I don't care for it, as a reader, I usually go for A covers and that's that These 1:50, 1:1000 covers are just a really cheap way to inflate the price of a comic in my opinion How about making your books good and having their value jump just because of that DC and Image are pretty solid right now, so this is more directed at Marvel

I get my comics digitally so it's a non-issue for me though I wish they could do something fun like a variant cover for digitial as well.

Cover A only. I do not buy variant covers. The only ones I have are from buying the collections off of friends who are getting out of the hobby

Started off fun, but the Batman ones being $10 a pop for just a foil variant is absurd
