All Out of Bubblegum

On this day in 1987, WrestleMania III at the Pontiac Silverdome.

In what was billed as his farewell match, “Hot Rod” defeated “Adorable” Adrian Adonis in a match where the loser had to be shaved bald.

Even though it was far from Roddy’s final bout, it is still a memory that will live on forever.

Loved it! For me this match was as big as the main event because Piper was super over at this time.

Wasn't that with the record (at the time) 93,000 attendance?

It should have been Piper's final match.

Such a fantastic match! Piper entertained us for years and that was such a blessing! No other wrestlers come close.

I would credit Piper just as much as anyone else for the success of the first Wrestlemania, and he helped set up the foundation for Wrestlemania being as popularas it was. Hogan needed a great heel to feud with, and Piper was just the man for the time and place.

I chauffeured comedian Freddy Lewis to this match. He openly wept as Roddy walked away from the ring.
