#Target said the company wants to make sure customers truly feel like guests who are appreciated.

The new policy requires employees who are within 10 feet of customers to smile, make eye contact, wave, and use friendly, approachable, and welcoming body language, the Minneapolis-based retailer told USA TODAY.

If staff members are within 4 feet of customers, they must personally greet the guests, smile, and initiate a warm, helpful interaction, Target said.

The requirements are part of a program called 10-4. The program is one way Target is trying to elevate the shopping experience, the company told USA TODAY.

The company did not say when the policy will go into effect, or whether employees will be reprimanded if they don’t abide by the policy. www.usatoday.com/story/grocery/2025/11/10/target-n…

@Tetragramix

I prefer when the staff avoids me, honestly. If I need them, I will approach.

This is going to make me bob and weave through the store as I desperately try to avoid interacting with anyone.

@Iluvpie6

Will they ever run out of ways to degrade the dignity of minimum wage workers?

@LoveLee-jz1tj

I don't want to speak to anyone while shopping. I'm busy.

The worst is five below. They make all the staff say 'WELCOME TO FIVE BELOW' every time someone enters the store. I feel so genuinely bad for those people. Stop doing that to your employees.

CRINGE AND CREEPY. Plus, makes a person feel uncomfortable and watched.

Hey Target, customers actually hate that.

@iggyjones88

Yuck. Thats the last thing I want as a customer.

@LenNeko1998

This is honestly so stupid. I don't wanna be waved to at 10 feet away by a stranger. Also I used to work for target, and man they have enough shit to deal with. They don't have time for this bullshit. Glad I went to x-ray school and left them lol.

@christophermyers3758

Maybe I'll turn the tables, walk up behind them, and yell... HELLO, HOW'S TARGET TREATIN' YOU? , while SMILING and WAVING profusely! 🤣

@nafeidt

Whelp! I am done going to Target because I shop with earbuds in and sunglasses on to avoid social interaction not to have it forced on me.

@czrs85

I have a way to simplify this. Make the CEO only take a 1 million dollar salary. And a fully covered health plan to all employees with living wage.

@d.t.r.8036

oh no, nope..if I were one of their shoppers, this would be the quickest way to get me to stop shopping there. I HATE being constantly bombarded by sales folks when I'm doing my thing. Have them around stocking shelves or or something so that I don't have to walk the whole store just to find someone in a situation when I have a question, but do NOT have them be required to initiate an interaction with me just because they happen to be in the same aisle that I am. and I'm guessing that there are probably a lot of introverts who feel similarly

@thomfrostted

You know what, Target? LEAVE ME ALONE. The last thing I want is a forced, fake interaction. Just let me get my sh!t in peace.

@missiegilreath299

This policy will actually make me avoid shopping at Target . I don’t need no social call while Im shopping. Just get in and get out .

@an_Amber

This is what introverts hate most.

I BOYCOTT Target because they bent the knee and did not stand firm for DEI ethics. Btw, I'm white.

@scarlettiara

So they’re going for creepy and annoying? More reasons to not shop there.

@samanthaj7799

Whole Foods already does this. Doesn’t make the experience better when you are being price gouged. 🙄 Shop local
