The Werkspoor's ESS 3200, made 1925 final production 1927. Last commercial operation 1977, one unit were not scrapped, the ESS 3202.
ESS 3202 remained idle in the Manggarai Workshop yards for 31+ years, until a group of railfans called themselves "Indonesian Railway Preservation Society" discovered the locomotive and inforned to the central person of PT. Kereta Api.
The locomotive later cleaned by the group, and then sent into the working shed of Manggarai Workshop to be refurbished. All the new components, except the transmission which still uses the original parts from Werkspoor, were taken from retired ED101 series EMU.
It was painted blue according to an old Dutch Magazine, and was renumbered to ESS 3201 for some reason despite ESS 3201 being destroyed after the crash in Ratujaya, Depok, 1968.
It was later taken outside the shed and stored in Tanjung Priok Station for a few years until it was serviced as a excursion train, along with Djoko Kendil coaches with a route from Tanjung Priok to Jakarta Kota station in 2014.
The ESS remained idle again for another 8 years, this time under a weather-protected storage shed. While the Djoko Kendil coaches were delivered to Solo for inspection purposes.
8 years later, in 2022, a surprising event where the CEO of Kereta Api Indonesia sent a video on his Twitter showcasing the ESS 3201 moving around the aforementioned shed. And then, the Djoko Kendil coaches were redelivered to Jakarta.
Railfans were starting to match a puzzle, The Djoko Kendil is either going to be pulled by the vintage diesel locomotive to commemorate the 77th independence day or it would be pulled by the ESS.
The predictions were right, in 15th of August, PT. KAI themselves announced on their Instagram that a KLB Perjuangan excursion train will run from Jakarta Kota to Tanjung Priok and then to Jatinegara (Meester Cornelis) station to commemorate the 77th independence day.
It was a great day, really great experience, I get to met all my online friends that I've never been before.. And I get to reexperience the classic ED101 series noises that I used to ride everyday to go to school, a shame it had to retire without being refurbished into an air-conditioned trainset.
Soon, there will be extended highlight of this locomotive that aren't in the Dutch Propaganda Spoof.
Hope you have a great day, good evening and goodbye.
