So we’re over halfway through Apollo’s first set of research trials at @eckerdcollegeflorida being conducted by Gracie Barrentine. This study is to gauge his knowledge of object labels vs. their materials. We only had a few options to work with, as we had to use items that he could answer for both label and material. These objects were chosen early summer of last year, so anything Apollo has learned since then could not be used. We also wanted to use items he was confident with. For the sake of science, many of the objects were new to Apollo. What clearly gives us the most trouble is one of the glass bottles. It’s a more “traditionally” shaped bottle with a square body and a long, tapered neck. We suspect this gives Apollo a hard time because what he knows to be “bottles” are, most often, plastic pharmacy/pill bottles, and sometimes other bottles of the same shape and size. 🧪
