J.J. McCullough

Check out this fun interview I did with ‪@SmallBrainedAmerican‬ One of the most fun interviews I've done in a while, because it's about a topic I don't think I've ever had a longform conversation about: living and working in Japan.

Lived in Da-Saitama for a half a year until last week & I always thought about the fact you lived there when I was there

@vibrolax

I worked in Japan in sporadic 3 week chunks for 9 years. Didn't live there, but I got to see and cosplay bits of salaryman life in various places. I was put through bits of hell for the first two years until they trusted me to do certain things the Japanese way. Then it was cake. Luckily, I worked in an industry where reputation and relationships were durable, so I didn't have to go through testing rituals at the start of each project. I am not a weeb, and only display my tetsubin and writing instruments as cultural memories.

Any video on the trade war or a certain president of a certain neiboring country threatening Canada with annexation?

Not gonna lie—I do wish I’d given that path a try as a young adult before long Covid kneecapped my brain. Even if I, too, found it wasn’t what it was cracked up to be.

Can you make a video on Mark Carney, and the ongoing trade war?

I'll watch it...But first, what do you think about revisiting Bill C-11 and what impacts it's had on Canadian Youtubers?

I'm somewhat disappointed you did an interview him. This person purposefully showcases the most backwards and poverty ridden areas of the world for views to make money. His content dehumanizes people living in poverty for entertainment or shock value all while catering to the prejudices of his audience. It's basically "poverty-porn" which does not bring any positive change or understanding.

As I get set to watch this, I'm hoping that this is not another one of those polarized loud constantly-interrupting podcasters that J.J. sometimes teams up with. ...and I also hope that I don't need to learn an entire StarWars-like backstory because someone is always referring to a "Destiny" person as if that's the most well known person on earth. ok, with that personal baggage of mine out of the way, I'm ready to hopefully enjoy this. [ update: my fears were unfounded; this was a very pleasant listen ]

There are some interesting polls starting to show the Liberals rapidly closing the gap with the Conservatives. I know there are a lot of caveats but do you think a guy like Mark Carney could ride an anti-Trump wave into a surprise government? I'm excited to see Who wins the leadership and how long they will have before the call is made.
